If you are planning to travel to hilly area then Lachung (Sikkim) is must go place for you.
As we were not able to reach Yumthang valley because of road block due to heavy snow fall so we have to stop in mid way and this photo is taken from that place . As you can see the beauty of place.
Yumthang Valley
As you can see the beauty of Yumthang valley . But be careful while crossing the river as I fell in the river in extreme cold weather .
Zero Point
After travelling about 10 KM from Yumthang valley you will reach to place known as zero point . Here you will not see any tree as it is situated at very high altitude . It is covered with snow in all 12 month of year.
1-> Which month you should choose for visiting Lachung , Yumthang Valley , Zero-point?
- If you love snow fall and extreme cold weather (we have lowest experienced -17 degree) then I would suggest you to visit Lachung from mid-January to march . Although you might face problems such as road block due to heavy snow fall. I am giving some snap of Lachung taken on 15-jan-2014 below.
- If you love both snow and not too much cold (always above zero degree but not more then 5-6 degree) then you should go in month of April to June . This is rainy season of Sikkim as in this time its always raining .

2-> Now after choosing your month of visit You all are wondering how to reach Lachung .
For this answer I am assuming you are not living nearby.
- First board train to Silliguri from your respective home town . If you are rich kid then you can board flight to Bagdogra.
- From Siliguri you have to hire taxi to reach Gangtok . As you can go in shared taxi , as this will charge rs -200 per head . Or you can book a Taxi .
- The day you will reach Gangtok you have to take a hotel . On the same day you have to talk to hotel manager to manage a trip for Lachung as all arrangement will be done by hotel . For Lachung only 2day- 1 Night trip cost about Rs 1000 per person.(Carry at least 10 passport size photo with you as it will be require by hotel authority ).
- I am assuming you have made up all the thing written above and reached to Lachung (A beautiful village in heart of Himalaya )
3-> Now you have reached Lachung and wondering how to explore maximum in minimum time
- As you will bored taxi from Gangtok at 8:00 AM and will reach Lachung at 6-7 PM , means whole day in travelling .
- As you will reach Lachung in evening you will be vary hungry , so you all want a delicious food. I suggest you to not eat food in the hotel which you will be provided by taxi driver. You come out of hotel and start walking , you will see there are two side of Lachung on either side of Tistha River. You will wonder where are the shops or Restaurants , don't be panic in Lachung village all houses are shops as all will offer you local beer , wine , whisky , brandy , rum etc. and all delicious Maggi (RS 50 per plate) .
- We were wondering in Lachung till 1:00 AM in night enjoying snow fall and bonfire.(At night be aware of Dogs)
- Next day you have to wake up at 4:00 AM , to visit Yumthang valley (appox. 50KM from lachung) . Sunrise view of Lachung is fabulous . I am tagging a photo see yourself how beautiful is that.
- After three hour you will reach to Youmthang valley . There are some small shops which will rent you jackets and hand gloves and food(Magggi) .
- I would suggest you to go to first shop at left hand side. Lady shopkeeper of that shop is very cute . I was unable to take photo of her face but you can see her(Blue jeans and blue jacket leaning on shop wall) from back and her shop in given below photo.
- Here you will be for one - two hours depending upon the shared people will .
- From here taxi driver will charge RS - 100 extra for Zero point , which is worth of giving as in 100 rupees you will see another haven.
